At Vazquez Company, safety is not a department — it's everyone's job. From the foreman planning the work to the apprentice doing it, every person on a Vazquez site is empowered and expected to stop work when something isn't right.
Our HSE program is built on the COR standard and goes beyond it. We don't wait for regulators to tell us what's acceptable. We set our own standard — and that standard is that every worker goes home in the same condition they showed up in.
We're not perfect, but we're relentless. When incidents happen, we investigate thoroughly, share the learnings across all projects, and make the changes that prevent recurrence. That commitment is why our numbers keep improving, year after year.
Site-Specific Safety Plans
Every project gets a written safety plan before a single worker sets foot on site — hazard assessments, emergency response, and safe work procedures included.
Permit-to-Work System
All high-hazard work — electrical, confined space, hot work, heights — is controlled through a formal permit-to-work system managed by qualified safety personnel.
Mandatory HSE Orientation
Every Vazquez worker completes a comprehensive safety orientation before starting any project — no exceptions, no shortcuts.
Daily Safety Tailgates
Pre-shift safety meetings held every day on every site. Hazards reviewed, permit status confirmed, and concerns raised before work begins.
Full-Time Safety Officers
All major projects have a dedicated safety officer embedded with the crew — not shared across sites, not on call from head office.
Near-Miss Reporting Culture
We track near-misses as aggressively as incidents — because a near-miss is the warning the industry too often ignores.

CSA Z462 and NFPA 70E compliant electrical safe work procedures. All electricians trained and equipped for arc flash environments.

Working at Heights
Full WAH training, rescue plans, and equipment inspection programs for all work above 3 metres — in compliance with Ontario WAH regulations.
Confined Space
Site-specific confined space entry programs with atmospheric testing, rescue standby, and entrant/attendant/supervisor training.
Emergency Response
Written emergency response plans for every project — including medical, fire, spill, electrical incident, and evacuation procedures.
Substance Abuse
Zero-tolerance substance policy with pre-access, random, post-incident, and reasonable cause testing programs.
